The LIQUID EYELIFT is a rejuvenating and minimally invasive procedure that is an alternative to blepharoplasty (eyelid) surgery for many patients.  Dr. Eviatar, board certified Oculofacial plastic surgeon and injection specialist, injects a combination of facial fillers (Radiesse and Restylane) in the eye area in a “sandwich” technique.  Radiesse is injected deep around the orbital bone to lift the tissue while Restylane, the thinner filler, is injected just under the fine lines of the lid to strengthen the skin to give it more structure and lift.  The result is a softer contour to the brow, a lifted upper lid, and a much more youthful appearance.

    What is a liquid eyelift?
The liquid eyelift is a new minimally invasive eyelid rejuvenating procedure using filler injected around the eye area.  It is a technique to rejuvenate the upper eyelid and lift it without doing surgery.

How is the liquid eyelift different from eyelid surgery?
The liquid eyelift is very exciting because traditional eyelid surgery in many patients looks unnatural, and the solution to making it look more natural is to remove small amounts of skin and muscle.  Removal of excess tissue can result in a hollow look.  However a youthful appearance is usually associated with a soft and full eyebrow and eyelid.  By adding lost volume and reducing wrinkles, the fillers lift, reshape, and rejuvenate.

The liquid eyelift is much less costly than traditional surgery and has little of the risks associated with surgery.  The results can be refined as you continue to age correcting any new signs of aging and always maintaining a natural look.  With surgery, results are permanent and cannot be customized to suit future signs of aging.  However, not all patients are good candidates for the liquid eyelift, some patients are better candidates for surgery.  Only a trained specialist can evaluate which procedure is best for you.

    How does it work?
By using a combination of facial fillers (Radiesse and Restylane) injected in the eyelid and eyebrow region in a “sandwich” technique, I am able to open the eye area, lift the upperlid, and create a much more youthful appearance.  Radiesse is injected deep around the orbital bone to lift the tissue while the thinner filler, Restylane, is injected just under the fine lines of the lid to strengthen the skin giving it more structure and lift.

    Is it painful?
The procedure is not painful. A topical anesthetic is applied to the area to be injected, and the material is mixed with anesthetic solution. As the fillers are injected with a very fine needle, the area becomes numb.

    What are the side effects?

Side effects include mild bruising and swelling at injection site.  On a rare occasion  there can be lumpiness in the treated area, but this be corrected with massage or further injection.

    Is there any downtime?
There is no downtime other than that due to mild swelling and bruising, which can be concealed with makeup.  Many patients return to work right after treatment.
Being cautious, I always tell people not to have a treatment right before a major event, in case of significant bruising, but unless a patient is in the public eye, there really is no need to take time off.

    How long does it last?
The procedure can last up to 3 years, depending on how the body absorbs the filler material.  I usually see the patient again in one month to see if any refinement is needed and then in 6-8 months for touch-ups as needed.  Often we combine the liquid eyelift procedure with muscle relaxing treatments such as BOTOX, Dysport, or Xeomin for further facial rejuvenation.  Commonly a skincare regimen is also recommended to help maintain youthful looking skin both in the eye area and face.
